My Story
An Elite Drummer With Depth
I’ve been connected to drumming as an art form for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a military family, we moved often and saw a lot of the world early. When we finally settled in Colorado, music became more than a hobby—it was a creative lifeline. It gave me focus, identity, and a way to translate experience into something meaningful.
Today, I live, teach, and work in music in San Francisco, and I bring that same sense of purpose—plus decades of professional experience—into every session, performance, and collaboration.
Colorado Roots, Studio Discipline
By the time I entered the University of Northern Colorado to study music and education, I was already working professionally—playing country, ska, reggae, punk, and alternative rock to pay tuition. Those years taught me what the real job is: show up prepared, listen deeply, support the song, and make the people around you sound better.
I later transferred to University of Colorado Denver to focus on performance and quickly became immersed in the Front Range recording scene. Between classes, I booked studio dates and gigs across the region. The pace demanded discipline, and I found that I thrive in that environment—close collaboration with producers, engineers, and artists, where taste, time, and precision matter.
Bay Area Expansion
Looking for new challenges, I headed west to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I began expanding my musical range—new scenes, new collaborators, and constant opportunities to deepen the craft. From intimate clubs to larger venues, I tried to make every rehearsal, session, and show add another layer of depth to my playing.
Los Angeles and the International Stage
Eventually, I moved to Los Angeles, where my work opened into the international music world. One of my first major breaks was touring and recording with the Nina Hagen Band, an experience that took me around the globe and demanded a higher level of intensity, creativity, and professionalism.
Around the same time, I worked with bands like Ghettoblaster, culminating in an Elektra Records deal and access to top-tier rooms in L.A. I had the privilege of collaborating with world-class producers and engineers including Eric Valentine, Geza X, Wayne Kramer, Jacquire King, and many others. Those years shaped my standards: be reliable, be musical, be prepared, and deliver performances that feel alive.
A Turn Inward
In 2009, I stepped away from the industry to explore another dimension of my life. After many years of study, I ordained as a Buddhist monk and dedicated several years to teaching Buddhist psychology and philosophy full-time. That period gave me something invaluable: the ability to work with attention, emotion, and meaning—skills that directly impact performance, creativity, leadership, and resilience.
During this time, I also deepened my training in Positive Psychology and mindfulness coaching, ultimately becoming a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaching Federation.
Coming Back to San Francisco
Over time, I began to feel the pull to bring everything together—stage, studio, and contemplative training—into one integrated creative life. Eventually, in 2024, I made the choice to come back to San Francisco and rebuild from a place that values both artistry and community.
Now, San Francisco is my home base. From here, I record, perform, and collaborate throughout the Bay Area and beyond—and I maintain a private teaching studio offering one-on-one and virtual lessons for students who want to develop not just technique, but a stronger creative mindset.
What I’m Known For
If you hire me, you’re not just getting “a drummer.” You’re getting a musician with a rare blend of assets:
-
Professional pocket and sound across genres
-
Studio-ready discipline (prepared, consistent, fast, musical)
-
Tasteful choices that serve the song—not the ego
-
Calm, focused leadership in high-pressure creative environments
-
A coach’s ability to bring out the best in people—musically and personally
I’m especially valued by artists and producers who want a drummer who can deliver: strong time, great feel, clear dynamics, and a collaborative presence that elevates the room.
